3-time Purple Heart recipient gets help with Brevard County home makeover

PALM BAY, Fla. — A three-time Purple Heart recipient from Brevard County got help from fellow heroes Friday as they all started a home improvement project together.

The local chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart is helping retired Sgt. Jon Langford fix up his family's home.

The group started with fencing donated by Home Depot, along with help from volunteers from the company's Palm Bay store.

The work is common help for the organization that helps Purple Heart recipients readjust to life after war injuries.

Langford was injured by explosions three times in Iraq and Afghanistan. He fought to recover and returned to battle each time.

He said he is thrilled to get help from other military members who've received the same honor.

"It's been outstanding. I've had so much support. But it's not about me, it's about paying it forward to the next generation, paying it forward to the next step in life, making the transition from soldier to civilian," said Langford.

The fence is only the first part of the project. There are still plumbing repairs, landscaping and repairs to Langford's porch that the group will take care of.

Langford and his wife have two children.
