Orange County school bus driver ticketed after crash that injured students

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Nine school students and their bus driver were treated for injuries after the school bus was involved in a crash in Orange County on Monday.

The bus was headed to Bridgewater Middle School with about 50 students on board when it crashed on Winter Garden Vineland Road and Mystic Circle.

A witness told Channel 9 the bus was pulling out of a complex and drove into the path of than oncoming vehicle.

Troopers said the vehicle tried to avoid the bus but struck it on the side.

Student Nadya Booker was treated and released from Dr. Phillips Hospital after the crash brought on an asthma attack.

"When she turned, she turned too fast and the car went under the bus and they slammed into each other," said Nadya. "And the lady, she was pregnant and her windshield just smashed in."

The Florida Highway Patrol said the bus driver, Linda Rickerson, was ticketed for violation of right of way.  Troopers told Channel 9 Rickerson has no prior tickets.
