9 Investigates: Gov. Scott's ad aimed at supporting Florida jobs not filmed in Florida

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Gov. Rick Scott has been fighting to keep Visit Florida funded through the state budget, going as far as filming an ad to push jobs in the state.

That ad, though, wasn’t shot in Florida, Channel 9 learned.

In the ad, Scott says, “There is not a job that’s expendable… we’re going to lose jobs.”

When first asked, Scott did not recall where the ad had been shot.

"Oh, um, it was shot in a studio," he said.

Scott told Channel 9’s Chris Heath that he shot the ad in Washington D.C. because he was on the road and it was easier.

The ad, showing Scott in a radio booth talking about the Florida Legislature and the importance of job creation, was funded by the political action committee, Let’s Get to Work.

Two Central Florida production companies said the ad could have cost between $10,000-$60,000 and employed up to 15 people.

Rollins College political science professor Dr. Rick Foglesong said the ad sends mixed messages.

"It's certainly contradictory," he said. "I would say, in this case, the governor doesn't practice what he preaches.

"He could have selected someone in our state to create that ad, but instead he took the work out of state."

State legislators were apparently not swayed by the ad and have proposed deep cuts to Visit Florida and Enterprise Florida in a proposed budget.
