Apartment complex residents say no one warned them after woman robbed, sexually battered

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County residents were surprised to hear Wednesday about a violent armed robbery and sexual battery that happened at their apartment complex a month earlier.

The man wanted in connection with the Oct. 1 incident remains on the loose.

Deputies said the victims were walking into their apartment in the Avenues of Baldwin Park in Orlando at about 3 a.m. when a man with a gun forced his way into their apartment.
The man stole from the victims and then sexually battered one at gunpoint, deputies said.
Complex resident Natasha Cubano said she had no idea the attack had taken place until she was asked for a comment by Channel 9.
"I'm surious to know why we haven't found out earlier," she said.
Resident Kevin Rodriguez also didn't find out about the incident until weeks after it happened.
"Yeah, I didn't find out until, like, today, which is when I saw the wanted sign," he said. "They I saw it was October and it's, like, oh, geez."
An Orange County Sheriff's Office spokesperson would not release details on when and how information is given to neighbors during criminal investigations other than to say it happens when it is "appropriate to do so."
Cubano was concerned that she and other residents were kept in the dark about the robbery for so long.
"We have neighbors that are young females," she said. "My sister, my mother, and none of us have heard about this."
On Tuesday, the Sheriff’s Office released a sketch of the man they want to find.
He is described as a curly-haired Hispanic male in his 20s, between 5-feet, 2-inches tall and 5-feet, 4-inches tall, and weighing 120-130 pounds.

He was last seen wearing a blue bomber jacket, jeans and a baseball hat.

Thirta Batasta moved into the apartment complex about two months ago and was shaken by the Oct. 1 robbery, and a different break-in at her neighbors' apartment a few weeks ago.

"They told us they had just been robbed with a gun," Batasta said. "They took all their money, right across from me, so I'm really very, very scared."

Investigators did not say if they believe the two robberies are connected.
