Bars are essential, according to a group of Volusia County bar owners who want the governor to hear loud and clear as they push to reopen.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Bars are essential, according to a group of Volusia County bar owners who want the governor to hear loud and clear as they push to reopen.

Memorial Day weekend is normally one of the biggest weekends for bars on Seabreeze Boulevard in Daytona Beach.

But they remain closed and have been through some of their biggest events like Saint Patrick’s Day, Cinco de Mayo and spring break.

“That really is our season, February through August,” bar and restaurant owner Richard Kitt said. “So it basically killed our season.”

Bar owner Patti Miracle is behind the group Bars R Essential and said bars provide jobs and a boost to the economy.

She plans to do a virtual ride along on Facebook this weekend to several bars showing their patrons outside with signs asking bars to reopen.

Volusia County is getting ready to fully reopen its beaches.
