Police: Brevard father arrested after shooting rifle from window

PALM BAY, Fla. — Police said an armed man surrendered after not responding to officers who surrounded his home in Palm Bay Sunday.

Officers said a neighbor called 911 at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday to report that Earl Stanton, 41, was shooting a rifle out his window.

Police responded and thought Stanton was barricaded inside his Palm Bay home on the 1700 block of Joshua Drive with his two children, according to authorities.

According to a police, Stanton told investigators he had been drinking and became angry about a video game, and then decided to fire his AR-15 assault rifle out the window.

Police said he told them that after the shooting, he fell asleep with his two children inside.

Stanton said he woke up shortly before 11:30 a.m., and then turned himself into police, according to a report.

His children are staying with a family friend, police said.

Stanton was arrested and was taken to the Brevard County Jail.
