Army vet receives mortgage-free home in Rockledge

ROCKLEDGE, Fla. — A decorated U.S. Army veteran is waking up in a new home with his family Wednesday.

The Military Warriors Support Foundation gave retired Army Sgt. Hector Latorre Jr. the home in Rockledge Tuesday, mortgage free.

Latorre served two tours in Iraq before being severely wounded by a roadside bomb in 2009.

He was awarded the Purple Heart in May and said he cannot believe he has a new home for life.

"Very excited. I can't even find words, you know, I've never felt this way before," said Latorre.

Latorre said he plans to work on getting a college degree.

He treated thousands of people as a combat medic and is credited with saving an estimated 75 lives.
