ORLANDO, Fla. - The man Orlando police said is responsible for one of two attacks in downtown earlier this month is in custody, but the other remains unidentified.

Officers said an arrest has been made in the case of a man who was punched in the face in Thornton Park.

"Because of your tips, we were able to ID the suspect from a battery incident that occurred at 105 S. Eola," Orlando police tweeted.

Police arrested Marquise D. Jones, 31, after receiving a tip on Oct. 14, a news release said.

Last week, Orlando police released surveillance photos of the man who they said randomly punched the other man in the face on Oct. 11 in the area near 100 S. Lake Eola Drive.

"(He) just punched me in the face and just stood there with no emotion for a little bit," the victim said.

Police said the attacker was acting erratically.

The victim, who did not want to be identified, said the punch left him with fractures in his face.

Jones was charged with felony battery, police said.

Court records show Jones was arrested three other times for attacking other people. In two cases, prosecutors dropped the charges. In the third, a jury acquitted Jones of knocking out a neighbor's tooth.

Jones' great-grandmother, Johnnie West, said her great-grandson may need help.

"Like a mental problem, like he hears voices and usually when he hears voices, he reacts," West said.

Police said they do not believe Jones is the person who followed a woman into her Lake Eola Heights apartment earlier this month. That man, whose sketch was released following the attack, remains unidentified. Click here to read more about what the victim and witnesses said happened in that incident.
