Atlas 5 rocket launches following weather delays

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — The Atlas 5 rocket took off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station early Wednesday morning.

Upper-level winds and clouds over Brevard County forced crews to push back to the launch to 4:10 a.m. Wednesday.

The rocket is carrying a U.S. Air force communications satellite into space.

That satellite will allow U.S. troops to communicate with leaders in the wake of a nuclear catastrophe.
