ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An Orange County woman went for a bike ride on a Saturday morning and fell into a coma hours later. Deputies say they don’t know much about what happened in between and are looking for the public’s help to find out.

Orange County deputies are asking anyone who saw Emma Ramirez during her bike ride on the morning of June 21 to reach out. At some point in between pedaling away from her home off Turkey Lake Road and arriving at Westgate Resorts to use the restroom an hour later, deputies say Ramirez suffered a brain injury.

Deputies said hotel security personnel called Orange County Fire Rescue after Ramirez arrived dirty, bloody and with what appeared to be some sort of injury.

A guard called 911 after the woman spent an extended amount of time in the restroom and blood was found in the stall.

She was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where deputies said doctors determined she had suffered a brain injury. They said she had been in a coma since then until she died Tuesday.

Deputies said they don't know what other injuries she had or what happened to her before she arrived at the hotel.

"The security guard did observe she had some blood on her, and her clothes and her person they were dirty, but we don't have confirmation on exactly her injuries. We're still waiting on the autopsy," a sheriff's deputy said during a press conference Wednesday.

Detectives said they haven’t been able to determine how Ramirez was injured. They said her bike was minimally damaged when she arrived at the hotel.

Ramirez's husband, Oscar Fernandez, said doctors tried to explain to him what happened regarding the injury.

"She had a scratch in the back," Fernandez said. "So you fall from the back, you can explain to you (having) a scratch. But she had little scratches on her knees also, so it was like she was rolling over. We don't understand."

Ramirez's family said she didn't have any prior medical issues.

Anyone who may have spotted Ramirez on her ride is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 407-254-7000, ext. 70633.
