Big aquarium project shares more details

The Brevard Zoo’s aquarium project at Port Canaveral is slated to open in 2027 — and the details for that opening have become clearer.

The $100 million project will focus on conserving the Indian River Lagoon’s natural features, as well as telling the stories of the region’s history, including space launches, sport fishing, shrimping, beaches, the port and other factors related to the Indian River Lagoon and the St. Johns River.

It will serve as an attraction to the Space Coast and provide up to $85.5 million in annual economic impact and support 937 jobs in the region, said its fundraising campaign website.
