Bomb squad called to Brevard home where body was found

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Police were working a death investigation at a home in Titusville, investigators said. WFTV found out it is at the same house that was the site of a standoff last week.

The bomb squad was at the Smith Drive home as well.

The incident began as a death investigation because the new property owners found someone deceased in a bedroom of the home, police said.

When police arrived and saw books on bomb-making, they said they called the bomb squad, just as a precaution.

The police department was at the same address last Friday to serve an eviction notice. The occupant of the house refused to leave and barricaded himself inside, police said.

A stay was issued last week, but WFTV was told there was another court date on Wednesday and the occupant of the home was evicted. The home was turned over to the new owners.

By noon, the home was cleared.

Police said large fireworks and weapons were found in the house.

Police said a cleaning crew working at the house Wednesday evening removed some fireworks and discovered an improvised explosive device.

Police said the device and fireworks will be disposed of by the bomb squad.
