Boyfriend of suspect accused of tampering with evidence in fatal hit-and-run

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Troopers have arrested the boyfriend of a woman accused in a hit-and-run crash in DeLand that killed a teenage girl and injured another.

James Hanna III, 59, has been charged with tampering with evidence and accessory after the fact in connection with the fatal crash that killed 14-year-old Julianne Hobbs and injured then-14-year-old Rachael Russell on March 17.

Hanna is the boyfriend of Danielle Halverson, who was arrested last week after failing to show up for a court hearing, authorities said.

Hanna was arrested on a warrant and was booked into the Volusia County Jail.
