Brevard County woman accused of having relationship with daughter's friend

WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. — A Brevard County woman is out of jail after posting a $180,000 bond on charges of lewd and lascivious battery and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Jennifer Clevenger, 43, of West Melbourne, is accused of carrying on an affair with one of her teenaged daughter's 14-year-old friends.

Clevenger was silent as she left the Brevard County jail Tuesday. She also tried not to be seen, covering herself in a rain slicker and a camouflage hat.

Clevenger never responded when questioned about allegations that landed her in jail.

Clevenger is charged with five counts of lewd and lascivious battery and nine counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. West Melbourne police said Clevenger admitted to having a sexual relationship with a teen she knew to be 14 or 15 years old.

"Through our investigation we learned that they met in December of 2012 and their relationship became physical back in the month of December as well as the month of January," said Lt. Richard Cordeau of West Melbourne Police.

Police were tipped off by someone who became suspicious of the relationship. According to court records, the encounters happened in the West Melbourne neighborhood where the pair live, at an unidentified friend's home and at an Orlando hotel.

"They traveled to Orlando for Ms. Clevenger's daughter's birthday." Cordeau said.

That's where police said Clevenger provided the victim and other friends of her daughter with alcohol.

"We are unaware of any other victims at this time, but we would ask anyone who's had this type of relationship with her to come forward," Cordeau said.

The victim in the case told investigators his relationship with the Melbourne mom ended when her daughter found out about it.
