Brevard County woman sewing mask covers to help health care workers during COVID-19 pandemic

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — A Brevard County woman is doing her part to help health care workers stay safe during the coronavirus pandemic.

From her seat behind her sewing machine, Jean Wright, of Titusville, is cranking out 10 to 15 mask covers for health care workers to wear over their N95 protective masks to help increase the mask’s longevity.

“Since these are in such short supply, we actually extend their life by making these special covers for them,” Wright said. “ So, how that works, this opens up, this covers it and it’s cute, but it also protects them and they can use the N95 all over again.”

Wright said she’s one of thousands of people across the country crafting the covers.

Wright has years of experience putting her sewing skills to work. She previously hand-sewed thermal protection quilts for the space shuttle program.

She said she’s still very precise about her work.

“Americans wants to feel like we’re giving something or doing something, donating blood,” Wright said. “This is just a small part that I play.”
