COCOA, Fla. — UPDATE: Residents are being allowed back into their homes after threats of explosives forced an evacuation.

Fire officials said no explosives were found, but they did find rounds of live ammunition following a camper fire behind a home.

It started with a fire at a camper. The camper was parked behind a home. As ammunition inside it went off throughout the night, neighbors were forced to clear out.

Police in Cocoa have evacuated several homes Wednesday morning after explosives were found in the backyard of a home.

Officers said “undetermined explosives” were found at a home in the 300 block of Mc Leod Drive.

Police said have evacuated everyone in a half mile area surrounding the home.

Officer said the explosives were discovered after responding to a fire at the home.

There was no one home at the time of the fire and there were no reported injuries as a result of the fire.

Officers said that after the fire was extinguished, a patrol officer noticed a tree had caught fire on a property north of where the original fire started.

Further investigation revealed the property contained explosives in the backyard, some of which had been going off throughout the night, causing damage to the home.

The decision was made to evacuate all surrounding homes in order to locate all potential hazards.

Police said the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad has been called to remove the hazard and residents are being evacuated to ensure their safety during the operation.

Patrol officers have blocked access to Mc Leod Drive. between U.S. Highway 1 and Dixie Court. to Bellaire Drive. on the south and Grandview Boulevard on the north.

Police said all properties within the perimeter have been evacuated until the scene is secured.
