WATCH: Man charged in daytime shootout in Titusville neighborhood

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — One man is in custody after police said he exchanged gunfire with another man in a populated area inside a Titusville neighborhood.

Police responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Grannis Avenue and Pine Street on February 6 around 1 p.m.

Investigators determined that an altercation occurred initially in the 400 block of South Park Avenue between 28-year-old Marcus Morris and another man. Mathis later met with an accomplice and returned to fire shots at the man. Officials said the man returned fire, causing Mathis and his accomplice to flee the scene in a grey 2015 Toyota Camry.

Officials said there were many witnesses to the shooting.

Detectives were able to identify Mathis using surveillance video that showed the shooting.

There were no injuries in the incident.

Mathis’ accomplice and the man he got into the altercation with have not been identified.

Mathis faces charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammo by a convicted felon and discharge of a firearm in public.
