Several people injured after wrong-way crash in Brevard

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A man was arrested following a wrong-way crash in Brevard Saturday.

Troopers said the crash happened around 3:20 a.m.

According to a news release, a Toyota Sequoia was traveling north in the southbound lane of U.S. Highway 1, while a Mitsubishi Eclipse was traveling south on U.S. Highway 1, south of Dairy Road.

Investigators said the Toyota was traveling the wrong way in the southbound lanes, causing it to hit the front of the Mitsubishi.

The Toyota then overturned and came to a stop in the grass median.

The driver of the Toyota was transported to the Parrish Medical Center with minor injuries, while the 47-year-old passenger had serious injuries.

The 20-year-old driver of the Mistubishi was airlifted as a trauma alert with critical injuries to the Holmes Medical Center, and the female 18-year-old passenger was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

Troopers identified the Toyota driver as Bryan Keith Holifield, 47, who was arrested on charges of DUI, serious bodily injury and driving on the wrong side of the road.

After the arrest, Holifield provided a breath sample, which showed it was beyond the legal limit in Florida.

Florida Highway Patrol said Holifield was booked in the Brevard County Jail.
