Woman hospitalized after fire destroys Melbourne apartment complex, officials say

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating after a suspicious fire at a Melbourne apartment complex sent a woman to the hospital.

A neighbor captured images shortly after the fire broke out Thursday morning at the complex near the corner of Mitchell Street and Fee Avenue.

An off-duty officer rescued a woman who was hospitalized from her second-floor unit.

The fire started on the first floor and spread quickly, impacting eight apartments.

The American Red Cross is assisting residents who are now looking for a place to stay after the fire.
