Brevard workers stage government shutdown protest

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Local workers affected by the government shutdown staged a protest Friday afternoon in Brevard County.

Union employees said they are trying to raise awareness about the local impact of the federal government shutdown.

Brevard is one of the counties hardest hit by the government shutdown.

There are so many NASA employees furloughed that the effects are trickling down to other companies who contract for NASA and the space program.

Union representatives are saying enough is enough.

They stood along a Brevard County road with signs telling Congress to stop the furloughs and put people back to work.

"We want somebody to stand up for the constituents. We don't want somebody to just be there and do their own agenda and not consider the constituents," said protest organizer Karen Houston.

Organizers expect to hold more protests if the shutdown doesn't end soon.
