A broad disturbance 96L looms over Hispanola

CENTRAL FLORIDA — A broad disturbance 96L is over Hispanola Friday night, and will continue moving west northwest through the next 24 hours to start the weekend.

Hurricane hunters have not found Cristobal yet, but the system may officially form during weekend.

Models are currently split, but some reliable models continue to march the system west northwest over Cuba and toward southeast Florida by early next week.

Others are quickly lifting the system northwest, north and northeast away from central Florida.  A lot depends on the organization of the storm this weekend.  A weaker system will tend to move closer to Florida and the Bahamas.  A stronger one, picked up by the storm system, may move away from us.

Hurricane hunters are expected to make a trip on Saturday to investigate depending on the health of the system.
