DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - A woman’s body was found in a car that was submerged in a Daytona Beach retention pond, officials said.
The car was spotted in a pond on Fentress Avenue near Interstate 95 just north of International Speedway Boulevard late Friday night.
Volusia County Sheriff’s Office dive teams spent much of the night in the water working to get the woman and the car out.
Officials later identified the victim as Helen Burrell, 63.
Authorities believe she may have lost control of her car and hit a curb, causing her vehicle to go airborne.
She was the only person inside the car.
Deputies do not know why Burrell may have lost control.
The crash is still under investigation.
