Central Fla. stores hiring up to 1,000 seasonal positions

ORLANDO, Fla. — It's only a matter of time until central Florida malls are packed with holiday shoppers.

Up to 1,000 seasonal jobs need to be filled in central Florida.

Some Orange County stores have hundreds of positions open that could lead to getting hired on the spot.

Applicants will have a chance to impress a potential employer in person at a holiday job fair at the Florida Mall on Tuesday.

Nearly 30 of those employers will be under one roof.

The past nine months have been frustrating for Lorraine Rocco.

Just about every job she's applied for has been through a computer, but she said she's more used to face-to-face.

"That personal one on one is really -- I feel the connection, that's how you know if you're right for that job and if that job is right for you," Rocco said.

Employers said they will actually look at resumes on the spot, and could hire on the spot too.

This is the first time workforce has held the event in nearly five years.

They said retailers have been contacting them because the holidays are around the corner and they haven't filled positions yet.

"A lot of the jobs are temporary, but they do have the potential of lasting longer," Jason Lietz with Workforce Central Florida said.

Rocco hopes it happens to her.

"You never know because one of those jobs may lead you into what's supposed to be for your career, for your life," Rocco said.
