Convicted sex offender drugs teen, offers sex, deputies say

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — A convicted sex offender has been arrested after he was accused of giving a teen drugs and trying to have sex with him, Lake County deputies said.

William “Buddy” Hopper was arrested this week after the incident happened last month in his Leesburg home, deputies said.

"He showed the juvenile porn off his phone and propositioned the juvenile for sex, but the juvenile declined," Fred Jones with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, said.

Hopper also gave the teen, between 12 to 16 years old, marijuana to smoke, deputies said.

Deputies said Hopper exposed himself to the teen after he was turned down for sex.

Deputies said the victim is already going through a lot. Investigators said the victim has had issues with the law and was headed to a juvenile detention center when they learned about the allegations of abuse.

"Someone who is going through some troubles as it is and now he has to deal with this as well,” Jones said.

Deputies said when confronted with the allegations, the suspect couldn’t keep his story straight.
