Couple arrested after baby found unresponsive, bleeding

LONGWOOD, Fla. — A Longwood couple was arrested on child neglect and aggravated child abuse charges after authorities said they found a 2-month-old unresponsive and with a bloody nose.

The Seminole County Sheriff's Office said they arrested Jessica Heath, 24, and Joshua Stuart, 26.

During the investigation, deputies found out that Stuart violently shook the infant after the baby wouldn't stop crying.

"We believe that the male suspect shook the baby so hard that it would actually shift the brain, which is consistent with shaken baby syndrome," said Kim Cannaday of the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.

Stuart was charged with aggravated child abuse and booked into the John E. Polk Correctional Facility without bail.

Heath was also arrested after investigators learned the infant required daily medication, which she failed to administer.

Heath was charged with child neglect and was booked on $2,500 bail.

The infant was taken to South Seminole Hospital and was later airlifted to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando.

Investigators said the boy's injuries are so severe that he will likely die.

The sheriff's office said Stuart could face homicide charges if the child dies.
