Woman, 21, who died in crash on I-4 ID'd

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Interstate 4 reopened around 3:30 p.m. after a fatal crash closed the westbound lanes near State Road 417 Wednesday afternoon.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said one person was killed in the crash and another person was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

Authorities said a 21-year-old Melissa Ostrom was traveling on the I-4 ramp from SR-417 when she lost control and the car began to overturn. Ostrom's Ford SUV was struck as it overturned onto its roof by an oncoming westbound car driven by Safe Tawfik.

Ostrom was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tawfik suffered minor injuries and was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

The crash is still under investigation.

Troopers told Channel 9's Marion Boone that there were 11 fatalities along the same stretch of interstate in 2013.
