Cub of bear that attacked Longwood woman hit, killed by car

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Wildlife officials said the third cub of a bear that attacked a Longwood woman was hit and killed by a car Friday night.

The 65-pound cub died after being hit by a car on Markham Woods Road in Longwood Friday evening, according to officials. The cub was buried after being picked up by bear biologists, officials said.

Fish and Wildlife officers had been looking for the female bear's third cub after capturing her and two of the cubs in early December.

Through DNA testing, the cubs' mother was determined to be the one responsible for attacking a woman in Longwood on December 2.

The bear and two cubs remain at Busch Gardens in Tampa and are doing well. The cubs are expected to released back into the wild next spring after they are weaned from their mother.
