Family, friends gather to remember man killed in Orange County hit-and-run crash

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol investigated a hit-and-run crash Friday after the body of a 21-year-old man was discovered lying on an Orange County road.

Troopers said a passerby discovered the body of Demossi Weaver shortly before 5:30 a.m. near Old Highway 441 near North Orange Blossom Trail.

Investigators said Weaver was struck by someone who was driving a pickup truck that should have a damaged grill. They said the crash was recorded by a surveillance camera at a nearby gas station.

Weaver's cousin, Antonio Randolph, told Channel 9 that his cousin was a college student who maintained straight A's and who was close to his family.

"He was just a good kid all around," he said. "I don't know what happened. We're trying to find out."

Relatives gathered near the crash site Friday morning to mourn Weaver's death.

Weaver's older brother Roderick said he was in shock someone struck his brother and didn't call for help.

"We have to build our love off of memories and pictures and old videos," said Roderick. "None of those things are going to be able to give that love that he brought to us everyday."

Relatives said they do not know why he was walking near the road at the time of the crash.

FHP said a nearby suveillance camera caught the crash.

Demossi's father told Channel 9 the family is working to provide a reward for information leading to the arrest of the driver.

The crash remains under investigation.
