Driver killed after being thrown from car, run over after crash on SR 528, troopers say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A fatal crash investigation forced troopers to shut down a section of the Beachline Expressway in Orange County.

The crash happened shortly before 5 a.m. Thursday near Universal Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said a driver lost control of their car and struck a guardrail. The car overturned, and the driver was ejected into the travel lanes.

An SUV driving on the road was not able to avoid the driver lying in the roadway and ran them over.

The person died at the scene.

Troopers said they are trying to find out whether any other cars ran over the driver.

Troopers want to talk to anyone who was traveling eastbound around 4:30 a.m. Thursday and thinks they may have run something over.

They can call Florida Highway Patrol at 407-737-2213.

The crash remains under investigation.

Troopers have not released the driver’s identity.
