Delivery driver tries to save woman who crashed car into pond

ORLANDO, Fla. — A woman was rescued after police say she drove her car into a retention pond early Tuesday morning.

The crash happened near the Grand Central apartments at about 3:30 a.m.

A newspaper delivery driver spotted the car in the pond, called for help, and then jumped into the water and tried unsuccessfully to break a window, authorities said.

Fire officials said when they arrived at the scene, they were able to break the back window and pull her to safety.

"Upon getting her out of the car and back to the shore, the car submerged completely underwater," said a Lieutenant with Orlando fire Rescue.

Investigators said the woman, whose name was not released, should be OK.
