Deltona man accused of shooting wife cries in front of judge

DELTONA, Fla. — A Volusia County man accused of shooting his wife in front of their children faced a judge Monday and broke down in tears as he was charged with three counts of attempted murder.

A domestic situation turned violent when Emmanuel Rosado, 26, shot his wife and then exchanged gunfire with deputies Sunday in the 1900 block of Alameda Drive in Deltona, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said.

The victim, Victoria Rosado, 26, told investigators that she was trying to separate from her husband, but that he showed up at the house Sunday “and started acting crazy,” VCSO said.

Emmanuel Rosado locked the door and would not let his wife and three children leave, deputies said.

Victoria Rosado locked herself in the bedroom to get away from her husband, but about seven minutes into a 911 call, the dispatcher said there was a scream and then the line went dead.

Victoria Rosado was shot in the leg by her husband, deputies said. She told the dispatcher that the dispute was over the custody of their daughter.

At about the same time the 911 call ended, deputies arrived at the home and were fired upon, deputies said.

Victoria Rosado: "I don't believe he would do anything stupid.”

Dispatcher: “OK.”

Victoria Rosado: “To the police.  He is very respectful when it comes to authority."

Victoria Rosado: “Put that somewhere, please!”

Emmanuel Rosado: “Why?”

Victoria Rosado: “Because they know you have a weapon. Just leave! I know you are not going to do anything but to make it safe for them.  When they come in here, they don't shoot you, OK?  Please go put it away.”

Deputies reported hearing a man inside the house say, “You’re going to die tonight,” but information from the sheriff's office did not indicate if the man was speaking to them or someone inside the home.

Neither the deputies nor anyone inside the home was hit during the exchange of gunfire, investigators said.

Victoria Rosado was able to crawl out of the home and was pulled to safety by a deputy, authorities said.

A family member, who did not want to be identified, said it's a bad situation.

"I don't know how he was thinking. I don't know what happened. So I can't say nothing about it, because he's not used to doing that," said the family member.

After his wife and the three children, ranging from 23 months to 7 years old, were out of the house, Emmanuel Rosado was ordered to walk out the back door and was arrested, deputies said.

Emmanuel Rosado is being held without bail.

Victoria Rosado was taken to Sanford’s Central Florida Regional Hospital in a helicopter. She remains in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
