Deltona man accused of trying to stab wife during argument

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A Deltona woman is recovering after deputies said her husband tried to stab her several times Thursday.

The incident happened just after 5 p.m. at the couple's home on Sable Avenue.

Deputies said the victim called 911 during an argument with her husband, and while she was on the phone, deputies said Abel Franco tried to stab her.

"She noticed, obviously, a behavior change in her husband, who had been drinking throughout the night and once she saw he became upset for no apparent reason, she called 911 right away," said Lt. Sean Gowan of the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

The woman was cut on her back, arm and side, but investigators said the cuts were not deep.

She was airlifted to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach out of caution, because she was also having breathing problems.
