Deputies: 2 teens steal Corvette, guns in Port Orange crime spree

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 19-year-old and 14-year-old were arrested in a crime spree that included burglary, car thefts, car burglaries and stolen guns, Volusia County deputies said.

Deputies said at about 5:30 a.m. Thursday, a man on Cardinal Boulevard in Port Orange woke up and realized his home had been robbed.

His iPad, shotgun, Corvette and Chevrolet Silverado were missing.

Deputies said surveillance video showed the teens inside the home and stealing the vehicles.

Other houses on the street were robbed as well, deputies said.

The iPad’s “Find my iPad” feature helped deputies track down the teenagers at a hotel on Atlantic Avenue in Daytona Beach Shores.

While deputies were converging on the hotel, they said a white Hyundai that had been reported stolen pulled up in a parking spot next to the Corvette.

Five people were taken into custody, including Kelly Shaw, 19, and Nathan Barker, 14.

The two teens were armed, deputies said.

The three other teens in the group weren’t involved in the robberies, deputies said.

Deputies said they found multiple stolen items in the hotel room.

Shaw’s list of charges included armed burglary possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Barker was charged with one count of grand theft auto, possession of a firearm by a minor, and carrying a concealed firearm.

Deputies said more charges are likely against the suspects as Edgewater and New Smyrna Beach police investigate recent burglaries and a series of car break-ins.
