Deputies: Deliveryman injured when robber shoots restaurant safe in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A deliveryman who was restocking restaurant supplies was injured early Thursday when an armed robber shot the restaurant's safe, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

The shooting was reported shortly before 2:45 a.m. at the Taco Bell-Long John Silver's near Lee and Wymore roads, Orange County Lt. Ken Taylor said.

Deputies said Michael JR. Carwise, 26, wore a mask when he barged through a back door and ordered the deliveryman to open the safe.

The deliveryman said that he didn't have access to the safe, and Carwise shot it twice, sending bullet fragments into the deliveryman's arm and leg, deputies said.

Investigators said that the deliveryman escaped through the restaurant's front door and ran to a nearby RaceTrac gas station to call 911.

The deliveryman was taken to a hospital with injuries that aren't life-threatening, Taylor said.

The Winter Park and Eatonville police departments assisted the Sheriff's Office with its manhunt.

Deputies said Carwise was captured about an hour later on Sunnyview Circle in a nearby Eatonville neighborhood.

The incident remains under investigation.

No other details were given.
