Deputies file charges with State Attorney after teacher found with pot

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Parents of students at Timber Creek High School said they want to know why they were not notified that a teacher was suspended after she was allegedly pulled over with marijuana and pills in her car while on campus.

Orange County deputies said they caught Megan Urban, a social studies teacher and cheerleading coach, on Monday driving erratically.

They pulled her over in the school’s parking lot, where they found a small amount of marijuana and red pills in an unlabeled prescription bottle.

Student Kyle Ricketts saw her pull in and get pulled over.

“She could have killed someone that morning,” Ricketts said.

Urban didn’t claim the drugs and told deputies her boyfriend had been driving the car.

She wasn’t arrested, but deputies filed charges with the State Attorney’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office said it followed policy, and WFTV legal analyst Bill Shaffer said that’s not unusual in a misdemeanor case when there’s a question about proving possession.

The district sent a statement which read, “Details of an employee investigation are not required to be broadcast to parents or the student body. Any and all details are private until the case is closed."

But the principal could have sent a message letting them know Urban was under investigation if the message was approved by the area superintendent.

The school district could not say if she submitted a drug test, but under guidelines, if a supervisor directs an employee to submit a drug test and the employee refuses, the district will ask the board to fire the employee.
