Deputies: Ocala payroll clerk stole $50K from employer

OCALA, Fla. — A payroll clerk is accused of stealing $50,000 from her employer, authorities said.

Officials said Tammy Hein, 34, told deputies she took the money because she's a single mother and deeply in debt from a previous relationship.

Marion County Sheriff's deputies said they were called to America's Choice RV Park on Thursday because Hein was late turning in the payroll.

A check of the payroll system found that Hein had been paying herself in commissions or bonuses since March.

Hein was confronted with the accusation when she arrived at work on Friday. The deputy noted in a report that Hein said she saw an opportunity to "pay her debt off."

Hein was charged with grand theft. Jail records do not indicate whether she has an attorney.
