Stabbing suspect in road rage attack arrested

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An Orange County man was arrested Wednesday night on attempted murder charges after he confessed to stabbing a driver during a road rage attack.

Deputies said Jon Spengler, 46, stopped his car in front of the other driver on Monday, got out, and then stabbed the 23-year-old man.

Authorities said Spengler gave no reason for the attack.

"In this case, our victim was completely innocent. Doesn't even know what he did wrong," Jane Watrel of the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

The victim, who did not want to be identified, told WFTV his story.

The victim said he had switched lanes when suddenly Spengler pulled in front of him, stopped and got out.

The man said he tried to roll up his window as Spengler stuck his arm inside the car, and then stabbed him.

The victim said he was able to fight Spengler off, who then got back in his truck and drove away.

"The victim was seriously in fear for his life and legitimately so. It looked like the suspect really wanted to kill this person," said Watrel.

Witnesses were able to get Spengler's tag number, and that is how deputies were able to track him down.

Spengler remains jailed on $50,000 bail.
