Deputies rescue dog that leaps from moving car into Lake Jesup

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A dog that leaped from its owner’s moving car and into Lake Jesup will live to see another day.

Buckley, a 1-year-old shepherd-and-hound mix, leaped from the car’s open window as his owner drove over the Lake Jesup bridge on State Road 417 Wednesday afternoon, but Seminole County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations deputies were able to rescue him by airboat, authorities said.

The panicked dog had never been in a moving car before when he bolted and then jumped off the bridge into the water, its owner told deputies.

His owner pulled over and called 911 and deputies deployed an airboat to search for Buckley in the water.

About 35 minutes later, they scooped the swimming, soggy dog out of the lake and reunited him with his very grateful owner, who then rushed him to the vet.

Buckley sustained a broken pelvis, scrapes and road rash but is expected to make a full recovery.
