• Deputies search for burglar in south Orange County neighborhood

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - Deputies are trying to track down the person who broke into a south Orange County home in two consecutive days.

They believe a teenager found the key the homeowner had hidden, but what the burglar doesn’t know is it was all caught on camera.

Deputies said the homeowner was away between July 9-12, and when he returned to his home on Bay Pine Lane, some cash was missing from his dresser.

According to reports, the home was broken into again on July 13, but nothing was stolen.

Other residents in the North Shore at Lake Hart Community are concerned the burglar lives in the neighborhood, and some believe they may have been victims as well.

Resident Cassandra Whitten said someone rang her doorbell recently, but when she opened the door, no one was there.

Whitten said she believes in the time it took her to answer her door, someone went inside her garage, and then left when they realized someone was home.

“Looked around and there was no one down the street. Like no one, no one on the street. I could smell cologne in my garage,” Whitten said.

Some neighbors recognized the person drawn in a composite sketch.

“I know who is he is. He walks around all the time. He walks up and down this street,” said resident Virginia Benton. “I never saw him breaking in anywhere. I just saw him kind of scoping.”

Other people in the neighborhood said they’ve recently had their cars broken into, but deputies don’t know if the crimes are connected to the burglary.
