Police believe same burglar behind recent rash of Brevard break-ins

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Brevard County deputies are on the hunt for a man they think could be behind several break-ins in Melbourne.

Police said there have have been roughly eight break-ins in the Suntree and Viera areas since March 20.

Deputies said the burglar has been targeting homes during the day and has been entering through sliding glass doors.

“We weren't always concerned with making sure the sliding glass doors at the back of my house or my patio doors were locked, but now every door is locked,” said resident Chris Marriott.

Authorities said most of the burglaries happened between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

In one of the break-ins, the burglar threw a brick through the sliding glass door of a home in the Crystal Lake neighborhood off Interlachen Road.

Deputies said the suspect was confronted by a resident inside the home, but he pointed a gun at the victim and ran away.

The robber is described as a black male with short black hair. He was last seen wearing all black clothing and carrying an orange backpack, deputies said.

Deputies released a composite sketch of the suspect last week. Anyone with information is asked to call the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.
