Deputies: Text messages lead to arrest in alleged high school rape case

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — According to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, text messages between students led to an arrest in a case of alleged sexual assault.

According to deputies, a 14-year-old girl told investigators a fellow student, 16-year-old Dshawn Hosang forced her to perform oral sex and then raped her in a school stairwell at Matanzas High School

"I really am shocked that it went on here, but that could happen anywhere, but nothing like this has ever happened here," said Peter Gambino, whose grandson is a student at Matanzas.

On Tuesday night the school district confirmed to WFTV's Renee Stoll that they are also investigating the incident, but they would not comment on the details of their investigation.

Some people outside the school told Stoll they wonder how something like this could happen during school hours.

"That's even worse because where is everybody during that time?" said Gambino.

According to police reports, the two met in the stairwell and started kissing. The girl said that's when she was forced into sex.

According to the reports, Hosang denied anything happened.

Investigators said when they saw text messages between the two teens, that were sent immediately after the alleged incident, they arrested Hosang.

According to records, Hosang was on probation for several burglaries from last year when he was arrested on the sex charges.

Friends of Hosang told Stoll that they are standing by him.

"I don't see him trying to sexually harass anyone, I just don't see it," said student David Gregory.

Hosang is charged with felony second-degree sexual battery and violation of probation, and is being held in a juvenile facility in Daytona Beach, police said.
