Dog found treading water 2 miles from shore

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Caretakers are searching for the owner of a small dog found treading water in Tampa Bay.

The Tampa Bay Times reports a fisherman saw the dog's small nose rising above the waves Thursday morning.

The dog was 2 miles from the St. Petersburg shoreline and the water temperature was 68.

The fisherman took the dog to Demens Landing marina. A resident wrapped the dog in a towel and said she shook all night.

The pooch was wearing a red collar and pink rhinestone name tag. She has a microchip, but the number associated with her name doesn't work.

Caretaker Suzy Johnson says the dog may have fallen overboard at night without anyone realizing it.
