Dragon boat racing team of at-risk teens and Orlando police invited to compete in Toronto

ORLANDO, Fla. — A dragon boat racing team of Orlando police officers and at-risk teens have been invited to an international competition.

The Dueling Dragons of Orlando were practicing at Lake Fairview in Trotters Park on Monday.

They've been asked to compete in the Toronto dragon boat festival in September, which attracts more than 200 teams from around the world.

"A lot of times when I was younger, I didn't get the chance to talk to the officers like I get to talk to them now. Usually, it's always, you see them on the street, they're always serious, and now you get to joke around with them, have fun," said team member Brandon Cunningham.

The team needs to raise $33,000 to pay for its trip to Toronto.
