Driver claims fake deputy approached him at red light

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A man called 911 claiming he was approached by a fake deputy.

David Sharp said he was at a stop light in Deltona when a man approached him with a handgun at DeBary Avenue and Enterprise Road.

Sharp called 911 and told operators that the man claimed to be a deputy.

"I was stopped at the light to turn left, he gets out of the car behind me. I don't know if it was a BB gun or if it was a real 9 mm. He points it at me and says, 'I'm a deputy. Give me your license and registration.' I'm like, 'No you're not. I want to see your badge please,'" said Sharp.

Authorities said the man was last seen turning onto Jena Drive in Deltona, driving a red Pontiac Grand Prix.
