Driver in day care fatal crash says car malfunctioned

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The driver of the car that crashed into an Orange County day care two months ago said the car malfunctioned.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of a Toyota Solara said he tried to apply the brakes before he hit the building, but the car sped up instead.

The car was hit from behind as it was turning into the parking lot of the Kindercare Learning Center off North Goldenrod Road.

Lily Quintus, 4, was killed.

Robert Corchado was charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death.
