• Elderly man with dementia missing in West Melbourne

WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. - An 80-year-old West Melbourne man suffering from dementia has disappeared, and his family and friends are desperate to find him.

Robert Harrison's family said he might not have even been wearing shoes when he left his house on Milwaukee Avenue and as each hour passes, they become more concerned about his well-being.

"We figure he's been out now for one night in the woods," said Robert Harrison's daughter-in-law, Bonnie Harrison. "All day yesterday and now last night."

Robert Harrison's family describe him as a homebody, but he hasn’t been seen since Sunday night.

"You know, he's 80 years old, and he's not in his right state of mind," said Bonnie Harrison.

Brevard County sheriff's deputies are actively searching for Harrison, combing through nearby canals and parks.

"We ask the neighborhood nearby, please check you yards, ditches," said Deputy Maria Fernez. "That could really service us a lot by checking your own property."

"Maybe someone will see something in a backyard or something," said Bonnie Harrison. "He might be in just the edge of the woods. He may have laid down to take a nap."

Robert Harrison's wife of 17 years was too emotional to talk about the situation, but she's found a lot of support among her family and neighbors who are all holding out hope for a happy resolution.

Anyone with information on Robert Harrison's whereabouts is asked to contact authorities.
