Lake City escaped prisoner - captured

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — An escaped prisoner from Lake City in Columbia County was captured in Winter Haven Sunday morning after he crashed a stolen Chrysler 300 he was driving, according to police.

The escapee, Devonte Bodison, 20, was driving on First Street near Avenue B near downtown Winter Haven as police followed behind, keeping a safe distance due to an arts festival nearby, investigators said.
Bodison drove off the road and crashed into a concrete lawn ornament, causing the front wheel of the car to come off, a news release said.

The car flipped over and landed on its side, then skidded about 20 feet on the road, where it came to rest in a yard, police said.

Bodison exited the car through the sunroof and ran into the yard of a home at the
corner of Avenue O North East and Fairfax Avenue, where he was arrested, police said.

Bodison was booked into the Polk County Jail on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, two counts of fleeing to elude, one count of resisting arrest without violence, one count of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, and Columbia County Department of Corrections escaped prisoner charges.

Bodison was serving time in Columbia County Department of Corrections on charges of burglary and grand theft. He was set to be released in February 2018.
