Ex-commissioner Mildred Fernandez released from prison after corruption conviction

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A former Orange County commissioner who was convicted of accepting illegal campaign contributions was released from prison Monday morning.

Mildred Fernandez was arrested in 2010 after she was caught on camera accepting bribe money from an undercover Florida Department of Law Enforcement agent.

The former mayoral candidate pleaded no contest to public corruption charges and was sentenced to 22 months in prison last year.
