• Ex-Leesburg cop won't attend games after alleged inappropriate messages to softball player

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. - A former Leesburg police officer will no longer attend high school softball games after allegations he sent inappropriate messages to a player.

Channel 9 learned some parents met with the principal of South Lake High School and it was mutual agreed between Chris Alaniz and the parents that he would no longer attend the games.

The meeting came after female students on the South Lake High Eagles softball team complained they felt uncomfortable because Alaniz, the coach's husband, was accused of sending the inappropriate messages through Facebook to one of his wife’s players late last year.

Channel 9 learned one of those alleged messages said, “If I were a few years younger or older…” and another asks the girl what she’s done with boys and if she was really a virgin.

The Leesburg Police Department had launched an internal affairs investigation after a parent came forward and filed a complaint over the messages.

Alaniz quit just days after the investigation started, and no charges were filed.
