Family of slain Orange Co. man desperate for an arrest

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — It’s been two weeks since an Orange County man was killed outside an Orlando-area hospital, and his family and girlfriend have taken to the streets to help track down his killer.

Alex Mazzan and a friend were leaving Orlando Regional Medical Center on May 19 when they got into an argument with people inside a white Nissan, investigators said.

Mazzan’s friend said it was because they weren’t on the sidewalk.

Someone in the car pulled the trigger of a gun and killed the young father.

Kelli Severt, Mazzan’s sister, and Briana Skiles-Wadkins, his girlfriend, said they aren’t giving up in the search for the gunman.

“My brother would have done it for me, I have to do it for him,” Kelli Severt said. “You’d think you could walk to a hospital, do a good deed and then walk to your car. It’s mind-blowing.”

They spent the weekend putting up posters with information describing the suspects and photos of the white Nissan Altima they were last seen driving.

“There were two females in the front and two males in the back. They opened the door and shot my boyfriend for nothing,” Skiles-Wadkins said.

On Sunday, friends and family gathered in Bithlo, where the victim grew up.

Monica Severt, Mazzan’s mother, said she desperately wants her son’s killer to be caught.

“I miss him so much. I want to find the thug that did this,” she said.

Detectives said they are getting plenty of tips about the case, but no solid leads.
